Gilmerton Yard
Luck Stone’s Gilmerton Yard is a distribution point for aggregate products in the South Hampton Roads area. Material is sourced from our Rockville Quarry, transloaded to barge at our South Richmond Quarry, and off-loaded at our yard. Trucks are then used to ship this material to local commercial, residential and other projects.
The cities of Chesapeake, Norfolk, and Virginia Beach.
The Rockville Quarry, source stone for the Gilmerton Yard, is termed a metavolcanic rock formed in the early Paleozoic time (500 million years ago). Occurring first as a volcanic flow of molten magma, the rock underwent a geologic metamorphosis, causing the minerals to become more distinct. The many fractures and joints throughout show how the formation was later intensely folded. Overall, the rock is green-gray and fine-grained in texture, but has visible red feldspar (orthoclase) and quartz.
