Burkeville mines light-colored, grayish-blue granite known as Burkeville Pluton. Formed in the late Paleozoic age (about 250 million years ago) from magma intruding upon existing rock during the creation of the Appalachian Mountain chain, Burkeville Pluton contains orthoclase and microcline feldspars – a common family of minerals found in granites.
