Rock Kit FAQs

Q: Why and when was the Luck Stone Rock launched?

A: The Luck Stone Rock was initially launched in 2000 by Luck Stone Corporation and was recently re-launched (March 2007) to elementary public schools with fifth grade classes. The Luck Stone Rock was designed to provide teachers with a hands-on, minds- on teaching tool to support fifth grade students who study Virginia’s geology.

Q: Does the 2007 Luck Stone Rock replace the 2000 version?

A: No. However the new 2007 kit has been updated with new lesson plans and new rock samples. We hope you’ll continue to use the 2000 version as the 2007 version of the Luck Stone Rock is an additional teaching tool/resource.

Q: Is there a charge for the Luck Stone Rock kit?

A: No, Luck Stone’s re-introduction of The Luck Stone Rock into all Virginia public schools with fifth grade students is a direct result of the company’s desire to support youth development and education throughout the state.  If schools wish to have up to two additional kits they are available at a subsidized rate as long as they are available.

Q: Did each 5th grade teacher receive a 2007 Luck Stone Rock for his/her own classroom during this re-launch phase?

A: No. One Luck Stone Rock kit with increased kit components and double set of samples (rocks) was mailed to the media resource center and/or library of each elementary school so the one kit is sharable among fifth grade teachers.

Q: Does every public elementary school receive a Luck Stone Rock?

A: No. The Luck Stone Rock kit was designed for 5th grade teachers in Virginia as the activities in the kit meet the Virginia Standards of Learning for elementary school Earth Science. Only schools with fifth grade classes received a new 2007 Rock Kit.

Q: Can I request or purchase a Luck Stone Rock for my classroom and do you have any extra Luck Stone Rock kits?

A: The Luck Stone Rock kits are available for limited purchase by public and private schools in Virginia.  One Luck Stone Rock kit was mailed directly to the media resource center or library at each public elementary school in Virginia.

Q: I’m not a public school teacher; I’m a homeschooler or private school teacher, may I receive a Luck Stone Rock?

A: The Luck Stone Rock is available for purchase by the home schooling community or private school for a nominal fee when used for teaching toward the 5th grade SOL’s.  The Luck Stone Rock was designed specifically for fifth grade students at public elementary schools who study Virginia’s geology to meet the Virginia Standards of Learning for elementary school Earth Science.
