EMS
The Environmental Management System (EMS) provides a structured means to measure and manage environmental performance. It also provides a platform for continuous improvement and "beyond compliance" environmental performance. Luck Stone has already implemented EMS at several of our plants, and plans to implement it at more plants over the next few years. We have created the New Kent Environmental Bank as compensation for wetlands impacts, and have begun stream restoration activities at several sites.
Programs
Luck Stone engages in a number of innovative programs and practices to ensure our continuous improvement in environmental stewardship. In addition to EMS, we have instituted an annual Environmental Award for our on-site customers to recognize their extraordinary efforts in environmental stewardship. We have partnered annually with the James River Clean-Up since its inception in 2000. We also sponsor other environmental initiatives in our operating regions.
Awards
Luck Stone has received numerous environmental awards and is a recognized leader within our industry for environmental stewardship. Luck Stone's Director of Environment, Health & Safety was named Environmental Professional of the Year by the National Stone, Sand, and Gravel Association (NSSGA) for his innovative work in establishing environmental practices that support "beyond compliance" performance.
Reclamation
Luck Stone takes seriously our responsibility to preserve our natural resources and reclaim the land we occupy in an environmentally sensitive manner. We consistently out-perform the regulatory requirements with our reclamation programs and have been recognized repeatedly for our efforts by the Virginia Department of Mines, Minerals, and Energy (DMME). Our most recent award recognized the reclamation of our King William plant to viable farmland.
Value Safety
Value Safety at Luck Stone is part of our culture and is the approach we ask our associates to take while on the job. Value Safety requires our associates to have direct involvement in their personal safety and the safety of their co-workers. Safety training both on and off the job site, safety awards, and ongoing safety incentive programs and communications are standard practice at Luck Stone.
