Luck Stone’s commitment to the communities in which we operate is a long-standing tradition, dating back more than 85 years to when the company was first founded. We have always strived to support our communities and neighboring organizations that have a positive impact on our local communities.

Further, Luck Stone conducts hundreds of open houses and tours annually for students, scouts, neighbors, and community groups. Many of our associates volunteer their time to participate on non-profit boards, support local events, and provide leadership that makes significant contributions to their communities. We participate in school-business partnerships, sponsor environmental and community organizations, sponsor and coach youth sports leagues, support local fire and rescue operations, sponsor programs with 4-H and scouting groups, provide scholarships to graduating seniors, and supply in-kind donations of stone to help repair driveways, pour foundations, build parking lots, create walking paths, and improve local facilities. We take pride in our corporate citizenship, and look forward to ongoing opportunities to share in the growth, development, and vitality of our communities.

HAR-TRU Tennis Tournament Benefits ALTA Foundation
The first annual HAR-TRU Clay Court Charity Invitational Tournament benefited the Atlanta Lawn Tennis Association Foundation, which is committed to providing tennis opportunities to physically and mentally challenged players, as well as inner-city youth.

”This is the first of many HAR-TRU Clay Court tournaments we plan to stage in the Atlanta area,” said Tracy Lynch, HAR-TRU’s Southeastern Representative. “The ALTA Foundation’s goal of extending the reach of tennis is a goal we share at HAR-TRU. Playing on a HAR-TRU clay court is easier on the back, legs and ankles than an asphalt or acrylic court. Playing on a HAR-TRU clay court can extend your playing life.”

The tournament raised $1,000 for the foundation. HAR-TRU is a brand widely recognized around the world as the preeminent name in clay courts and is owned by Luck Stone Corporation as part of Lee Tennis.

The NEW 2007 Luck Stone Rock Kit Launch
Luck Stone has teamed up with the Virginia Department of Education to re-launch The Luck Stone Rock kit. Originally launched in 2000, this specially-created geology toolbox is designed to provide public school teachers with a hands-on, engaging teaching tool to support students who study Virginia’s geology. Luck Stone was excited to provide each fifth grade public school in the Commonwealth with ONE complete kit at no charge. The new version continues to meet the Virginia Standards of Learning for elementary school Earth Science.

Luck Stone’s re-introduction of The Luck Stone Rock into Virginia’s public schools is a direct result of the company’s desire to support youth development and education throughout the state. Since its inception in 2000, The Luck Stone Rock has made the grade with thousands of teachers statewide and we hope the 2007 version scores high in classrooms.

Luck Stone Sponsors Loudoun County High School’s Hispanic Leaders for the Future Seminar
Approximately 50 of Loudoun County High School’s (LCHS) future Hispanic student leaders were invited to attend a two-day Leadership Seminar on March 20th and 21st, 2006 at Carradoc Hall in Leesburg. J.R. Gonzales, CEO of the Hispanic Chamber of Commerce and seminar facilitator walked the students through a series of leadership and professionalism activities and discussions during the two-day event. Gonzales, who has met with the present and past presidents of the United States and generally commands a significant stipend for seminars directed toward Hispanic CEO’s and PhD’s, was sponsored for the Carradoc Hall event by Luck Stone, a LCHS school-business partner. Luck Stone’s underwriting enabled LCHS to provide the Gonzales leadership seminar for the cost of travel and lodging expenses.

Luck Stone Lends a Hand to Habitat for Humanity
Luck Stone and Habitat for Humanity of Greater Charlottesville (HFHGC) teamed up to provide the Perkins family with a place they can call home. To help fund the house, the Luck Stone Foundation provided a monetary donation of $25,000 and an additional $25,000 was provided by the company’s partners through in-kind and monetary donations; and the rest of the funding was raised by HFHGC through individual donations and grants. Luck Stone volunteers constructed the home, located at 396 Red Hill Road, from start-to-finish. With kindness in their hearts and hammers in their hands, Luck Stone associates hauled, hammered and heaved until the home was owner-ready in mid-summer.

Audrey Storm, Senior Construction Manager of Habitat for Humanity of Greater Charlottesville, said Habitat was “delighted to partner with Luck Stone as they realized a dream for a family in need. They built a house, but most importantly they provided hope to the Perkins family.” Habitat homes are made affordable with largely volunteer construction. Further, each homeowner-to-be has to complete 400 hours of service from training in home-ownership and budgets to assisting with other Habitat home builds; “we call this sweat equity,” added Storm.

HGTV’S Curb Appeal Makes an On-Air Appearance at Charles Luck Stone Center in Columbia, MD
Charles Luck and HGTV’s Curb Appeal worked together to improve the exterior appearance of Andrew and Jill Fahlund’s home in Tacoma Park, MD. Charles Luck played an integral role in the renovation process by donating a variety of stone to improve the home’s walkway and retaining wall to give the home an organic and inviting feel. The episode documenting the Fahlund’s transformation aired April 2007.

Wayne Napier, manager of Charles Luck’s Columbia stone center, said “We’re honored that we partnered with a company of HGTV’s national caliber and hope to continue teaming up with similar entities and individuals that appreciate good design.”

The Building Stone Institute (BSI) Names Grubb “Man of the Year!”
The Building Stone Institute (BSI) recognized John Grubb, a veteran product specialist for the Charles Luck Stone Center, by giving him the highest annual award: the “Man of the Year Award.” With nearly 21 years of experience, Grubb has been integral in sharing his knowledge about stone products and installation with the industry. He has worked on a number of technical committees for BSI to build a bridge for the industry with architects and the design community nationally. Additionally, he served on a number of industry associations including his role as president of the Charlottesville chapter of the Construction Specification Institute (CSI) and a member of BSI’s Board of Directors.

BSI Past President, Rick Jones, said Grubbs Grubb is an ideal role model. ’’He [John] was given the chore to work on promoting thin stone application and fabrication standards and did an exemplary job. He’s been a BSI and natural stone promoter for years. I think John was the right man at the right time at the right place.’’
